Meizu M6 vs iPod Nano Comparison

In year 2006, Meizu announced a new generation super product - MiniPlayer. This machine not only ended the era when Meizu had no MP3 players with video broadcast function, but is also one step towards the MP4/PMP level. Because of the Great performance of this product, it is possible make this domestic MP3 brand attack the foreign market. Meizu is the leading manufacturer of MP3 players in China. Apple is big in the global industry. Now let’s to do a comparison between Apple and Meizu’s newest players.

Appearance
External appearance is the first impression that a digital product gives, it’s important. And in later use process, the external appearance of the product is also a customer need to consider. Let’s first compare the external appearance of these two machines.

1. Size and weight:
MiniPlayer designed in Korea, the exterior is very small, only 79×48.2×10mm, and weighing only 55 grams. Although the MiniPlayer screen is very big, the exterior just looks like a bank card, the screen takes up 3/4 of the machine front face, this is very nice. Then look the iPod nano, the size is 90×40.6×6.9mm, the weight is 42.5 grams. The size and the weight of Nano is smaller, but not by much. But as a video broadcast player, the thickness of the MiniPlayer isn’t inferior to Apple.

Score:
Mini Player:★★★★☆
iPod nano: ★★★★★

2. Design:
The beautiful exterior of iPod series is an recognition by industry. The emergence of the MiniPlayer shows us domestic hope. Though some suspect that the external appearance of the MiniPlayer is copied from iPod, but incontestable, even though the MiniPlayer used the iPod for reference, on the whole pleasant impression, the MiniPlayer isn’t inferior to Nano.

The long shape of the iPod nano and the small screen, giving the person a kind of narrow-minded feeling, but the generous layout of the MiniPlayer has exerted simple and direct style .

Score:
Mini player:★★★★★
iPod nano:★★★★★

Hardware scheme

1. The decoder chip:
The chip is a MP3s heart, usually the main chip include both main control and audio frequency processing, the basic functions. MiniPlayer uses the Samsung chip based on ARM9 technology as it’s main control chip. The basic frequency is up to 200 MHz, and can provide good support for video playback. This main control chip built-on the 130MHz DSP–W8731L. It controls the chip inside placed the DSP- W8731L of the 130 MHz’s. However Meizu persists in it’s "high sound quality style" all along, adopting a top Philip audio frequency processor, it is very rare that a so luxurious decoding chip is installed in a MP3 player.

But the decode chip of the Nano is the Portalplayer 5021C that was used in the iPods before.

Score:
Mini player:★★★★★
iPod nano:★★★☆☆

2. The screen:
Screen is another important point of the MP3 player, MiniPlayer adopts a 2.4-inch, 260,000 color TFT screen. The resolution is 320x240, the appearance is very fine, the experienced effect isn’t inferior to 2.5-inch flash MP4s(PMPs), but is different than the Nano. iPod Nano adopts 1.5 inches of 65,000 color TFT screen, the resolution is 176×132, and can not compare with the QVGA screen of the MiniPlayer, MiniPlayer wins on this one.

Score:
Mini player:★★★★★
iPod nano:★★★☆☆

Functions and performance:
The control scheme is also very important, for example the MiniPlayer’s decoding chip is better than Nano, but will have no meaning if the control scheme is bad. Just see the actual functions, let’s see the functions contrast of the two machines together.

1. Functionality:
Though iPods have a nice designs, the functionality is always lacking. See the Nano function: "Support the picture and photograph browse and the slide browse, support many format document broadcast, stop-watch, clock of world, contact list of persons, e-book reading, the screen holding etc. function", disjointed with mainstream MP3s completely. However MiniPlayer has the MP3 players highest level in functionality, MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG etc. Audio broadcast and video(XviD) broadcast, recording, FM radio, picture browsing, games, the digital companion etc., very practical. Compare with the Nano that does not support recording, FM, video broadcast to say, it truly loses in this category to the MiniPlayer.

Score:
Mini player:★★★★★
iPod nano:★★☆☆☆

2. Sound quality and battery performance:
The sound quality of iPod series is all right but nothing special, just like many fans of iPod also think. MiniPlayer, under the support of the DSP, the sound quality isn’t inferior to Nano. Just look at the hardware. But then again, the sound quality is a personal subjective opinion.

Battery continuous working time is an important standard of MP3, although the series of iPod usually only can playback continuously for 10 hours, it is still fairly good, reaching to the general level of MP3s. MiniPlayer adopted the 3.7 V,700 mAh the build-in lithium battery, and can support 20 hours to broadcast continuously, taking into account the big color screen, it’s perfect.

Score:
Mini player:★★★★☆
iPod nano:★★★☆☆
